Anyone who has ever experienced the work of a hairdresser who applies massage techniques during the shampoo and conditioning experience will already know just how wonderfully relaxing it can be. When these same motions are applied during an Indian Head Massage, or “Champissage” the results are equally pleasurable and soothing. The major difference is that the Indian Head Massage doesn’t actually use any water or shampoo, and the provider must acquire Indian herbal hair massage oils for the receiver to choose from their website
To begin, the receiver must be upright in a comfortable salon or massage chair. The provider can then position their palm across the forehead of the receiver and place the other across the back of the skull. They can then slowly tilt the head forward and back allowing the receiver to become more relaxed with each movement. This should be done at least four times in each direction.
Next, they will take their massage oil and begin dispersing it along the scalp by parting the hair in several locations. The entire head must be properly oiled to prevent any tugging or muscle strain during the Indian Head Massage. The provider will then place their hands on either side of the receiver’s head, with fingers spread, and will slowly move the hands up and in a circular motion, as if they were very slowly shampooing the hair. The heel of the hand is always kept in contact with the scalp along with the fingertips. As the hands reach the top of the head the fingers lift away, while the heels of the palms remain in place. The hands are then slowly dragged downward to a new position to begin the “shampooing” movement again. This entire process should be repeated at least five times.
To bring the massage to a close the provider uses the fingers to make long strokes along the scalp from the forehead back to the top of the head. They do this several times in each area, and then lay the fingers on either side of the forehead and drawback to each temple. They make gentle massaging circles on the temples and the massage is done.
